Guy Gross to conduct the Sydney Symphony for The Peacekeeper Wars
by Dani Moure - Friday, April 30th 2004

Category: Future Farscape

As released on Inside Film Magazine (and posted on the forums by Chi_fi_Eagle):

Sydney film composer Guy Gross will direct the Sydney Symphony in their first ever film score when they record his music for the finale of the sci-fi television phenomenon Farscape. Guy Gross is best known for his BAFTA nominated music for the theatrical hit, The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert. He has composed and received awards for a wide variety of films, documentaries and television over the past 20 years, and has recently joined Trackdown Digital in the creation of Australia's largest purpose built orchestral scoring stage at Fox Studios, Trackdown Scoring Stage (TSS).

It is through Guy’s involvement in Trackdown that has led to him been called upon to assist musically in productions such as Moulin Rouge, The Quiet American and most recently the Chanel No. 5 campaign directed by Baz Luhrmann, also featuring the Sydney Symphony.

Farscape, the critically acclaimed science fiction series, is produced by The Jim Henson Company in conjunction with Hallmark Entertainment and is shot entirely in Sydney. In response to an enormously successful fan campaign to revive the popular show, Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars, will return as an all-new mini-series scheduled to air in the United States in the fourth quarter of this year, with an Australian on-air date still to be announced.

To mark this momentous Farscape moment, Guy Gross, composer of 60 hours of Farscape episodes to-date, has been commissioned to provide the musical score for this theatrical style event.

Though classically trained at the Conservatorium in Sydney, until now, Guy has created his music for Farscape with synthesizers and samplers. However, for the Farscape mini-series, it's all guns blazing as he leads the Sydney Symphony in their first ever movie score.

"An epic TV event such as Farscape simply calls for a wonderfully large orchestral score and it's an honour to be able to call upon the services of the Sydney Symphony for this project."

The Farscape scores recording sessions commence on Friday 7th May at TSS at Fox Studios.
