New Farscape book

Postby Pal on Mon Jun 21, 2004 1:25 am

Hi

This is my first post so I apologise if I missed this subject somewhere else. Perhaps a moderator could move it somewhere more appropriate if I've been stupid.

Anyway, I was just browsing over at Amazon and I came across a new Farscape book. It's written by Joe Nazzaro the science fiction journalist. However, it isn't published until October 2004.

Here's the link.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1903111854/qid=1087777131/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_10_2/202-2523220-1772618

I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about it.

I've moved this to the Merchandise forum. In the future, please search all forums before posting.

Sorry.

I did perform a search but I didn't find any specific reference to a book by Joe Nazzaro.

Did I miss it?

Admittedly I should have thought a little more and put this in the Merchandise forum. Thanks for moving it.

No, there hasn't been a thread before. I think Cyn just meant to check all the forums for the most appropriate one. But it's not a big deal. :)

I'm certainly very interested to see what this book ends up being, since it has the "official" tag on it. Certainly it's interesting timing.

new farscape book

It's possible that it will be a compilation of the 4 season guides.

Thats what I thought at first but on Amazon, it says the the book is only 160 pages and that seems too short to be all four season guides.

If it's not published till October, it may well be the guide to Peacekeeper War, as I believe that airs around that time in the states - feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!

Found an interview that Nazzaro (who writes about different SciFi shows) had with Dave Elsey...but that's not much help *g*!!!

The publisher's site was u/s. (i.e. REYNOLDS AND HEARN (LTD) )...you might have more luck than me...

I'll keep my eyes peeled...it's not a very big hardback book, p'raps it will be an intro/lead up/cover for PKW...?

it could very well be the 4th season guide. I have the first 3 and they are all about 160 pages. What bothers me a bit though is that the first 3 are written by Paul Simpson (with David Hughes and Ruth Thomas). No clue who this Navarro dude is. But if it's "Official" then Henson must have approved of him. :)

The 4th Season guide is already out - I imagine it would be unlikely for them to re release it this October, and not mention that it's the S4 guide. The most likely possibility is that it's the PKW guide, or a dedicated character/vessel/planet/science of (delete as applicable) Farscape book.

As others may have already posted, Season 4 has already been published, http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de ... ce&s=books

And if you're interested there is (or was) a variant-cover issue available. It has John and Aeryn only (no Sikozu) on the cover in a more "shipper" like pose. A really nice, sort of limitted, collector's item. Here's the information for it that Titan Books gave back on Feb. 18, 2003:

This cover will not be available from Amazon, or in normal bookshops: it will only be available through Diamond Distributors, who are a specialist company who distribute to comics/sci-fi collectors shops like Forbidden Planet... The ISBN for the Diamond Exclusive cover edition is: 1 84023 698 1.

Here's a link with images of the two different covers: http://www.snurcher.com/reference/companion_4.shtml

No too sure about the alternative cover - looks like they're doing something that kids shouldn't see!

Mind you, is it just me, or does Claudia Black look really sunburnt on the normal cover?

I know! The first time I saw a pic of the variant cover the image was cropped right above where it says “The Illustrated Season Four Companion,” and I thought, “Um, … where is his hand?”  It wasn’t until I saw a copy in person that I was able to see that it’s only on her hip. (Whew.) 8)

And yes, Claudia definitely looked sun burnt or “something” in the promo shots for season four. I’ve mentioned it before in another thread. I felt she looked “different” (not just tanned) in a way I can’t quite put my finger on. Something about her look had changed. I was like, “What happen? Has she been under the weather?”

I’m always hesitant to bring it up because I fear it borders on crossing that well entrenched Scaper line in the sand of “not inquiring about the cast’s private lives.” I'm fine with that and I support it. But when someone looks so noticeably different it’s hard not to say something, you know?

Others noticed it at the time too. One online review for “Promises” wrote: “(…, plus her face looks strange. Saw some publicity photos that actually made her look less than stunning, which is amazing and, I thought, impossible.)”

Some have said she’d just returned from the States where she had several show biz related meetings about different projects, etc. - thus probably very tired and jet-lagged. It's also been said that a different/new makeup team for season four was now doing her makeup and that was the reason for the “new,” “more alien” look. I don’t know. I do know I’m glad that “new,” “more alien” look doesn’t seem to be in play for the mini series.

If you look at the episodes, basically from Infinite Possibilities to Bad Timing, you notice several changes in Aeryn's appearance. The stress and anguish the character was sufferning would have had a negative effect, and the fact that she reverted to her Peacekeeper type also came through. As season 4 progresses, you see the "Hard Soldier" look begin to soften - the hair comes down again and is more flowing, and everything is more relaxed. The same thing happens with Crichton at various points in the series - I would imagine that these physical changes are a way to emphasize to the viewer the emotional states of the characters - it's quite possibly a standard make-up artist technique!

NOT a guide...

Postby Dani Moure on Thu Aug 05, 2004 10:45 pm

OK, I got a nice e-mail from Joe Nazarro today saying that while some of the information at Amazon is right (page count, release date and price), it is NOT a guide book. He has promised to provide me info once it's all been approved... and he says it's worth waiting for. So, the mystery continues. :)

(Thanks Joe!)
