Favorite bit is when Gwen is unwilling to believe in aliens, and Jack wonders what its going to take for humans to accept aliens in the universe "What about that big ship in the sky at Christmas? Or the Cyberman in every home!"

I've been watching it. It's, ah, not as good as Dr Who IMHO but it seems to be a big hit on BBC3. The Cyberman episode next week looks good, or should that be a Cyberwoman?!

All Cybermen are the same, except the leader, so Cybermen, formerly a woman or man, is now a sexless creature, symbolizing the static sterile nature of Human 2.0

Just a bit ...creepy, isnt right. Callous is the right word, but then "just a bit" is very wrong.

The end of everything = I wonder if the Doctor's attempt to explain that to the mad professor wasnt the sort of thing that would end up as the genesis of the Cybermen becoming invaders, attacking everyone to convert them into Cybermen, or destroy if they couldn't. (old Cybermen that is) If he hadnt suggested it to them, and they won, would the problems stop there? Would the Cybermen be confined to Earth, having no reason to leave, no goals, no desires, other than to run the planet in some orderly fashion, destorying what few humans that would escape and hide from them?

It would be the end of the human race, but all the other creatures in the universe would have it a lot easier.

Torchwood is an excellent spin off. I like that it is darker than Dr Who, the Cyber episode showed how this can work, and I expect it'll get darker too.

John Barrowman has said he'll return to Dr Who when he is done with TW, but I don't expect it'll be soon.

As much as I don't like Dr Who, I like Torchwood.

But guess which episode I have not liked so far?
Yes the Cyberwoman one: too much Dr Who to my taste. This type of creatures of that genre are too simplistic for me and that costume, although sexy was silly.

The thing I find is that people who don't like Torchwood like Dr Who.

It obviously cater for very different audiences and I am glad.
I can't wait for tonight's episode 7.

okay I have finally caught up on my Torchwood viewing.

Most of the eps... so so. As someone put it, it may be adult, but definately not mature.

I did like the Cyberwoman ep .. not sure why people were going on about Small Worlds ..it seemed an entirely pointless ep to me. They bumbled about, people were killed, they arrived on every scene too late and did nothing. I mean, Quincy got more involved with his crimes, and he only investigated corpses..

Countryside - ugh. And that shoot 'em up scene - WTF? (and no, you never saw me use that before, and probably never again) Jack blasts in and single handedly shoots down all the townspeople with sawed off rifles in each hand (okay, double handedly)- but doesnt fatally wound anybody

I dont think I've seen anything that poorly connected to reality since the A-Team used to do drive by shootings with machine guns and never kill anybody. That should have been banned as .. as... poor television! If they arent allowed to kill people like that on TV, dont go in shooting up the townsfolk! Run 'em over with the vehicle, whatever... but.. ewwe. Its almost worse than the cannibalism, rushing in and destroying that suspension of disbelief.

Greeks Bearing Gifts - I thought that was kind of a cool ep. I really enjoyed that one - Felt bad for Mary - the real Mary - thought maybe the device would send back the alien and free her for the first time in over a hundred years .. would have loved to see her reaction to that freedom.

Edited to add: when rerun time came around, I realized this ep looks a lot more pathetic on a second viewing. Just tick it off the rewatchable eps.

They Keep Killing Suzie - another winner - what a great villain Suzie is! Goes for your sympathy while ripping out your throat .. more likely stabbign you in the back. And no one back stabs like Suzie, she does it with flair - you never even feel the knife going in at all...

Wonder if they can uncondition Max?

On the side note, Owen, the date rape specialist, seems to have torrid affairs with a member of the team .. and if he was sleeping with Suzie while using the device to collect other victims with his gizmo (Owen uses the rape gizmo instead of a rape drug for his victims) is that what he used on Suzie and Gwen? Its the only way to make sense of her behavior, terribly in love, but cant stop thinking about sex with Owen. I thought, after he witnessed the traditonal beat 'em up rape that he'd feel guilt for his own behavior, and thats what would drive him mad .. but apparently not.

Or maybe I'm wrong and Gwen really has no morals when it comes to cheating on somebody and does this sort of thing on her own. Its so completely out of character that I cant buy that. But Torchwood, despite the few good eps, doesnt seem to have a particularly high standard of drama, so maybe they dont care if its out of character, and just thougth it would be a fun storyline. Its too early really to tell. Maybe the series just got off to a bad start and these back to back good eps are the turn around point.. certainly hope so! Its more what I thought the show would be like ...

And ... call me naiive... but all sorts of fun things that could be done with a stopwatch?? No idea what they're going on about ...

Have seen all but the finale - Gwen really is heartless beast isnt she? Confessing her mindless out of character affair to man who just found out she'd slipped him an amnesia pill. She has no real feelings for him at all, just uses that poor guy as a sort of warped mirror to make herself feel better, no matter how it horrifies and disgusts him. That little weeping bit towards the end, - the actress does act well, with what she's given, you feel bad ... but honestly she deserves so much worse than what she's got. And Owen ... gone from bad to worse with a little heartbreak thrown in . I love watching the actor, but hate the character. Morals of a dog would be funny if he wasnt leaving so many victims in his in wake. Maybe he can be possessed by a better character for the rest of the show, so we can have him around, but make Owen suffer a little for all his crimes.

I have seen all eps but the finale...

I must admit I'm getting rather bored with this show.

It started very promising, I liked Captain Jack from the moment he rescued Rose Tyler in the London Blitz, and Gwen Cooper seemed very promising...

The first couple of eps were really good, up untill Cyberwoman, actually, which I found exceedingly difficult to relate to. I would have shot Ianto about 10 minutes in to the ep, he was so annoying!
And then came Countrycide which tried to be X-Files, only not, and it came out bad. Painfully bad.
They Keep Killing Suzie as well as Greeks Bearing Gifts were nice, but after that, the one with that dead guy, and the one with the people from the 1940's.... They both were good, but they had the same problem, as far as I'm concerned - They were unrelated. They had good characters, and good stories, but they didn't really feel that connected to the rest of the show.
Combat really sucked, those poor Weevils. And it was SO obvious it was going to be a Fight Club thing. Besides, I never liked Owen...

I'm keeping my hopes about the final two eps, because they are supposed to be focused on Jack, who is the best character in the show.

I think the best way to descrobe the series is like you said, Mreen,

Well, I liked the Eugene episode, and I did enjoy the finale (even tho Captain Jack again saves the day by himself)

I think it would have been interesting if they

actually let Owen be fired and showed him trying to cope with normal life and how the recon might change him .. or him trying to flee it. I think that, as opposed to an action adventure, would have been a cool finale. They could then play around with bringing him back next season (amnesified or not) if they wanted to .. I do enjoy the actor, but really feel his character has gone too far too often, selfish and callous about anyone's feelings but his own - his crimes ought to be punished at some point. I still like the idea of an alien taking him over perminantly, and maybe nobody on Torchwood realizing it, for several eps at least. Maybe the alien might be a bit evil, but give himself away by having more morales than Owen <g> ..I mean, the only thing that fires Owen up (other than suicidal love agnst .. is the thought of someone 'getting away' with crimes - he'd shoot the hostage to make sure the villain paid, yet he gets away with the most. Guilt complex?

Probably reading too much into the character.. Torchwood isnt that deep.

But, all in all, a decent showing of good eps with only 13 to play with.

Yup, its all about Captain Jack deciding to head back to the 21st century and take over a 'reformed' Torchwood office in Cardiff.

Altho it didnt inspire a lot of posts, reading this thread thru will still spoil much (maybe most) of the series, including the finale.

But then again, this show is more A-Team level than Life On Mars, so ..maybe its best to have lower expectations so that you enjoy it more for what it is.

I've just seen the two final eps...
Well, it did end nicely, I suppose. Jack saving the day was obvious, so I wasn't disappointed...
I like the gay undertow of this show...
I guess it's Russel T. Davies' legacy, or something... (He did write Queer As Folk, after all)
All in all, the two final eps were better than the series as a whole. I think.
I was even reminded a little bit of why I thought Gwen was a good and interesting character at the beginning.
As for Owen - the actor is good, but the charcter is exceedingly annoying...

I think I was the only person in the local Doctor Who group that didnt realize what the hand was .. I just never thought about very hard.

Well, its airing on BBCAmerica now...

right after season 3 of Doctor Who on SCI FI, but simultainious to season 2 Doctor Who on BBCA, which is interesting timing for them.

I'm not sure which ep is next, but I think most of the worst eps are over.. they just finished Countrysyde ...which was so bad I refused to watch it over again <g.> so I think we are supposed to get some semirespectable eps soon. No wait.. Greeks Bearing Gifts. That one is ..eh. But the other eps made it look respectable by comparison. It does have some good Tosh and Jack scenes in the middle. There had to be a good ep coming up soon, they dont have enough eps left to continue to be all bad. I remember there were some good ones at the end, tho the finale was a letdown.
