The most interesting thing about this (other than new DVDs YAY!) is the partnership with A&E. Does this perhaps suggest that A&E will be airing Farscape?

Don't know Firecracker. I'm sure someone at Comic Con will ask the question about A&E doing the mega set rather than Sony since supposedly Sony has all 4 season's rights. I'm just glad the show will have another run of DVDs out soon. :D Not that I'm going to get them...unless they add gag reels. Then I'd sell my current set of DVDs - I have the original sets BEFORE the Starburst sets were done - to get the MegaSet if gag reels are included. I love gag reels. :D

I am interested in how A&E came to have publishing rights to Farscape. 'Cause as I recall Sony got into a bidding war with ADV for Farscape - and won. Of course they have done nothing with those rights since then, so I am very pleased that A&E and Henson are reissuing the DVDs. But it is still a bit of a puzzle.

Anyone going to Comic Con? There are things that inquiring minds want to know! ;)

hello,
Any update regarding if there is _new_
content in this re-released set.
So far my reading of description indicates similarity to
the first round DVD release.

There is way more included in The Complete Series DVDs than the Original Farscape DVDs (the first round).

From what I understand they will have everything the Starburst Editions had PLUS "Farscape: Undressed" (only aired twice), the unaired episode "ReUnion" (which was reworked and then aired as "Dream a Little Dream") and last summers Farscape panel with Brian Henson, Ben, Claudia, Rockne at Comic Con.

I saw the DVDs at the LA Convention last weekend - but I didn't have a chance to look very closely at them (I have mine on order via Amazon). However they do look gorgeous. And they don't take up a huge amount of space. One box set of The Complete Series takes up the same amount of space as a single Season of the original DVDs.

Brian did explain why the show wasn't on Blu-ray (yet).

The live action sequences were filmed in 35mm (seasons 1, 2 and 3 plus PK Wars) or HD. (35mm is the gold standard and HD is fine for conversion to Blu-ray so there is no problem with the live action sequences.)

The problem is the CGI. The CGI was rendered to the level of British and Australian TV (PAL) - which is higher and better resolution than TV in the States and Canada but still not 35mm or HD. If TPTB went ahead and reissued on Blu-ray the live action would look fabulous and the CGI would look.... better. But not as good as the live action. The critics (and Brian) would be all over the contrast between the live action and CGI in a negative way.

Brian did look into re-rendering the CGI at a higher resolution but it would cost millions of dollars for each season. Just prohibitively expensive.

However... there is the possibility that technology will advance enough that the cost of bringing up the CGI to 35mm/HD quality will be feasible. Until then - I am very happy with the A&E version. Which is going to be loverly. :D

The megaset is beautiful. The most cost effective version of Farscape by far.

I finally got mine. Watched "Farscape Undressed" and "Premiere" last night.

Brilliant picture. Colours are brighter and the picture is more defined. Lovely.

Sometimes. Best Buy did a 'special' run of 5000 copies of the Megaset that included PK Wars. But that was only for Best Buy.

I got my copy through Amazon so I didn't get the 'special' Megaset.

Thanks for the info. I ordered mine from deepdiscount.com (backordered, and I notice the price has gone up gradually since then, so glad I ordered when I did), so no PK Wars, I guess. Oh well. I'll just get it separately.
