Back at the Mansion

Postby RagnarRB on Sat Aug 21, 2004 12:11 am

The company foreman, all nicely dressed in his spiffy Realty Corp. coveralls, allowed himself his evening indulgence of puffing on a imported cigar as he read the latest progress reports.

Progress, but still not what he'd hoped for.

A few weeks back it had been the greatest celebration in Reality Corp's history. They had finally co-opted the right insiders in Scifi land and taken a big step in getting rid of some of those pesky Scapers and all their shenanigans. Sure it hadn't been a complete victory, they hadn't eliminated Scifi or Scapers, but if he knew his bosses they were planning that for another time. Instead they had clipped it at the roots and ursurped firm control over just what would or would not be going on in the Farscape sections of the lands. They had seized control. No longer were the residents allowed free reign, but were forced to comply with new rules or move on.

And that thought made him smile.

Personally he thought they should just bulldose the whole place, turn over the land ,and make a parking lot or something useful out of it, but the board of directors had decided that they knew best, and had ordered the place frozen for posterity. Panzies the lot of them!

Future generations could read what they were darned well allowed. They didn't need any of this stuff preserved. It might give them ideas. Start another rebellion against reality even!....

Things would be different when he was in control. For now...

"Here sir, the latest updates." Another puff on the cigar as he was handed the report.

He scowled. they'd lost another Archiever! Those machines weren't cheap! Somebody'd better get their act together!

It had been like this since shortly after work had begun. R&D had broken out their prize equipment from storage, crews had been assembled and everything shipped to the so called Farscape Mansion. He himself had taken great pride in firing the first shot by freezing furniture in that place they called a kitchen. A crowning moment.

It hadn't lasted.

It was like the building itself had a mind of it's own. Worse yet there was a whole maze of tunnels, caverns, and levels that hadn't been on ANY schematic ! As yet they had no ides where it all went. More crews were called in. Security upgraded.

Survey assured him that all living people had been removed , then equipment began to be damaged, stop running for no apparent reason, and even turn on it's operators! Things in the house moved, others outright disappearded, and reports came in of shadowy figures, baleful laughter, and some kind of white furry kitten that seemed to be everywhere underfoot. Some said it was black, some white. Some said it was other figures, some claimed the place was haunted. All he knew was it was slowing down production.

He had a schedule to keep and by blazed the whole place was going to be archieved, rodents and all!

"Get me Control!" He bellowed.

Some times you just had to do things yourself!

*****************************************

Elsewhere...

Pad, pad, pad, with near silent perfection the small furry feet propelled the rest as one nearly invisable Artic Kitten crept thru the narrow ductwork. Ohh the Reality goons may control the main access points but no one was better as scurring thru the nooks and crannies than ArticKitten.

That was why Crais was nearly as estatic as a ManDroid could get when he'd stumbled upon her and Elvis. On top of that it just couldn't have been anything other than a blessing when he realized just where he found her was.

She'd claimed she wasn't snurching anything and she had lots of little explainations for being there, but Crais hadn't cared. He'd been slenking around the Reality crews trying to get past the locks on the door to 6th's old room for days when he snuck there to find it already open and one white furry feline nosing about. He'd figured of all the places to find useful stuff in this situation it would be here or in Rae's digs. Here had just been a little easier to get to.

(Not that Kitten hadn't shown him a way into Rae's room later upon which time he had cleaned out her belongings as best he could for safekeeping.)

The prize that had proven the most useful was the shrinking powder left in 6th's room from tales gone by. Not much electronic wize seemed to get thru the reality barriers and he realized he was fighting a holding action but the powder and it's opposite allowed him to move about freely. Shrink himself down, climb onto Kittens back , nestle down in a special rig designed for just that purpose and away they would go. No one had even thought to look for them in the ductwork. Gain an objectinve, unshrink and engage!

From there it had been easy enough to take the war to the enemy. As a mandroid he didn't appear on any of their equipment, and with Kittens knowledge of the maze he suddenly had nearly full reign of the entire mansion! Well, with the exception of the areas frozen. Probably not the right word for what the reality teams were doing but it was apt enough. Once they were done he had no way to undo it. Whatever 'they 'got was simply lost.

He leaned forward and scratched Kitten behind the ear.

Tonight had been especially pleasing. Not only had they saved most of Mouse's posessions but they'd had time to short circuit some of Realities equipment. Rae would have been proud.

He just hoped Rae and the others wouldn't take too long in getting them out of here. With the other mandroids frozen in the Archieved areas (he'd seen them fall himself), One Mandroid, ArticKitten, the hound dog Elvis, a pack of Kay's dogs , three black kittens and assundry couldn't hold out forever.

But they would try.

But then even Crais could have a bad night.

Kitten caught a wiff and just had to stop dead in her tracks. Could it be? She sniffed the air.

"Why are we stopping?" Crais demanded from his perch.

"CRUNCH!"

Kitten took off. Crais cursed.

This was the one thing he'd been hoping to avoid. Kitten was a greatest snurch he'd known until you factored in the peanutbutter crunch cereal. Her desire for those morsels almost overrode every ounce of her self control at times. Certain scoobs seemed to be able to keep her in check but left to her own....

She had barely cleared the duct grating when he knew instinctively that they were in trouble. People didn't just leave bowls of crunch sitting in the middle of a corridor

"GOTCHA" Someone cried out.

The enemy was getting wiser.

But alas no less stupid. He began to sprinkle some of the growing powder on both he AND kitten.

There may yet be some fun to be had tonight afterall. :)

The group of Scoobs peaked out over the bushes of the mansion gardens.
A Reality guard was keeping watch in area they were in. The longboat was anchored behind them and the guard's job was to make sure no one came near it or tried to take it out.

Kay gasped as she saw her beloved dogs all together in a small kennel. They were looking so miserable. Kay started to jump up to go let them out. Ragner pulled her back down and covered her mouth. He whispered in her ear so the guard couldn't hear.

"We will get them later. But if we get caught we won't do them or our possesions any good. And if the dogs see or smell us, then they will go nuts with excitement and possible give us away. Just wait. We won't leave them."

Kay knew he was right. But it was still so hard not to run to her pets. One of the three black cats that had grown up on the grounds was pawing at a leave that had fallen. Sunny pointed to the cat. Then she pointed to one of the other two that was chasing a mouse in the field. They just might come in handy as distractions.

Suddenly, they heard a screach from inside the kitchen area, and a cat yelping, but the cat sounded huge. guards ran out of the kitchen yelling. The one watching the longboat ran to see what the excitement was about.
The Scoobs took the moment to run quickly from their hiding place to around the far corner of the mansion, away from the kitchen area. As they passed, they caught a glimpse through the kitchen window. A very big, tall Crais was looking at his hands and arms in confusion, and a very very big Kitten was purring like a locomotive while she finished up the box of Crunch that had been used to entice her.

Rae grinned. She knew now what must have happened. They had used too much of the growing powder. The Reality guards were terrified to see the small tiny kitten turn into a potential giant wildcat. Little did they know that Kitten just wanted her Crunch. But it would wear off soon.

The Foreman groaned again and gritted his teeth "INVCOMPITENTS!"

What was the problem!? Didn't they hire good help any more? I mean didn't every last on the the Corps personel have to go thru a vigerous screening process to check their skills and look for signs of unstable imaginations? Were they not required to be well grounded in reality and factual observers?

He couldn't believe his ears! "A giant Cat!" He bellowed at the happless stooge.

"Uh,,,yes...uh..."

He closed his eyes. Sighed..."Enough." He began to pace. Some times motion helped calm his nerves. There was no such thing as a giant cat! And no such thing as a giant ArticKat as well!

Sigh....

It was all right there in the file. ArticKats :Small, white, furry....with an inordinate love of some stupid cereal. About yea big and so much weight. Reality Corp profiles were very detailed. There was no giant Cat mentioned at all!

Perhaps he HAD been working the crews too hard. It was just that this job was so important to his career not to mention the sanity of millions. This warped imagination of these people had to be stamped out!

"SIR..SIR!!!!"

'What now?' He voiced in the back of his mind as Nicholos, his chief aide came storming into the room, trying to bring himself to a stop before hitting anyone too important.

"What is it Nicholos? Cann't you see I'm busy!?"

"But Sir I thought you'd want to see this."

He pinched the bridge of his nose. This was going to be one of those weeks. "See what?"

"This sir..." Nicholos stopped brushing his tie straight long enough to activate the monitor on the desk. He quickly typed a few keys then spun it around for his boss to view. "Here sir."

The foreman stepped closer. Nicholos was always one for details but a little too insecure. Surely what ever this was could have waited....

He stopped in mid thought....

The screen showed a view from one of the survallance camera's he'd had placed in a ring around the mansion. This one was of the rear and showed a time stamp not far off of the morning's fiasco. Every thing looked fairly normal. Machinery was doing it's job and men seemed hard at work. It even had a picture of the recovery crew removing some more interesting artifacts for safe keeping. He and a select few others would divvy up this loot in the future, it was one of the job perks, for now...Suddenly there was a comotion in one corner of the screen as men raced from the door nearest the kitchen. Everything south of there had already been archieved. "I've seen this before Nicholos. Why are you wasting my time?"

"Watch sir."

a few more frames went by..."There see it?" Nicholas exclaimed and pointed.

There on the tape was a clear view of a group of ecletic 'people' making their way behind the east shrub bed and into an oversized window off the portcullico. They had obviously used the earlier distraction to slip past the quards. There were again Scapers in the mansion.

He was so fumed that he almost missed it. There last in line, a woman, leaned back out the window and offered a time honored salute directly to the camera. Rae was grinning.

*************************************************

At first Kitten hadn't even realized she'd grown. Her attention was first for the bowl that suddenly became too small, and then the box from which it's contents had been poured.

One extra long, slobbery tongue licked the poor ,shocked, Reality goon, pushing him against the wall and ripping the box of crunch from his hands. Peanut butter crunch spilled everywhere, Kitten gave pursuit.

Everyone went into motion at once.

Employees decided they weren't paid enough for this kind of thing and bolted. Crais riveled Rae and Sunny in choice of explicitives as he struggled to brush as much of the growing powder as he could back into the bag. Kitten's bolting for the box had made him spill it. It wasn't for several seconds that he realized that by using his hands in this chore he was just applying the powder to himself as well as to Kitten.

In a moment of his own shock, looking down at his disproportionate hands, he thought he caught a glimpse of motion outside. Naw it couldn't be. Not in broad daylight! They weren't that foolish were they?

It must be his imagination.

He had a crisis of his own to contend with. The reality people would be back and back in force.

Now what mattered was how to get control of a crunch crazed Kitten the size of a couch!

***************************************

Well, they had made it into the mansion alright, but if they'd know what had happened inside they would have picked another window. Apparently there was a lot of space already archived between themselves and where they thought Crais and Kitten to be. They were going to have to find another way to get there. You could see into the archived stuff but you certainly weren't going to pass that way!

Rae assessed the situation quickly.

Postby Rivyn on Mon Aug 23, 2004 10:38 pm

So much potential for adventure. So much potential for fun. So much potential for sheer disaster...

"You guys, flank left, take the catacombs," she advised, sliding in the other direction. She gave the camera another rude gesture.

"Where the frell do you think you're going?" Sunny demanded.

"Crais is in there. The others may be as well. I'll get them, you secure the catacombs. They may not know that they're there, yet. We come at them from all directions at once, battle won."

Sunny nodded and gestured for the others to follow her as Rae started in the other direction.

Don't you dare unshrink her, Crais! she ordered mentally, utilizing her mental uplink to the mandroid.

The mandroid stopped in his tracks, looking around frantically.

Riv, it's broad daylight! What are you doing here?

What the frell do you think? Look, don't unshrink her. You know where these goons are setting up their office?

Yeah. It's--

I don't care where it is. Tell Kitten that's where the Crunch is.

Copy that. What else can I do?

Shrink yourself, get back into the duct-work, and tell me where to find the other mandroids.

Crais quickly did as ordered, hoping that Rae would remember what Reality Fields tended to do to her health, physical and mental. She had half an hour or less, and he was already counting down.

Crais tried to tell Rae about the fate of the other mandroids but decided it could wait until he saw her in person. There was nothing she could do to retrieve them anyway. Once Archieved they stayed that way unless a higher athority than he chose to intervene. With luck they had downloaded their core processers into the backup stoage and they could be rebuilt anyway. Time would tell.

That only left Kitten.

Make that one BIG Kitten.

One BIG Kitten who seemed to be loosing more and more of her intelligence the larger she grew. He didn't remember seeing THAT in the warning label ,but then no one had ever used quite this much before. You try brushing white powder off a white cat and see if you get it all!

Thank his maker for Rae's inspiration. Kitten didn't have to be rational to influence her.You just had to know what buttons to push.

"Kitten!"

He kicked her in the rear leg to get her attention...ooops, maybe not that much attention. My what big teech you have BIG Kitten!

Ploding onward. "It's the Foreman Kitten! He's the one who stole ALL the crunch!"

Crunch? She knew that word. Kitten eyes narrowed...

More crunch! More crunch!

"It's in his office. He stashed it in his office because he knew you wouldn't dare go there to get it! He's hording it ALL!"

Kitten's eyes got bigger. Hide the crunch? He would dare hide the crunch? Deffinately more Kitten than ArticKat at the moment.

For a moment Crais wasn't sure the ploy would work.

What Crais didn't know was that what remained of her little mind had found it's second favorite thing. A toy! First she would get the crunch and then she'd get Ragnar! His scent was deffinately in the air!

The Reality folks were ill prepared for one giant Kitten when she burst from the mansion.

The Scoobs found more and more as they ventured along, that so much of what was once their's was archived. Their hearts were heavy.
Of course, a lot of their stuff wasn't present any more.

Some of thier personal things they were able to take, and the animals would go back with them allright, but a lot was either gone to them, or it didn't seem to be here. Did the Reality goons throw out their things as pure rubbel?

Kay had a thought. "Maybe they threw some of our things down in the basement?" Turning in the direction she knew would take them there, she grimaced at the thought of going past rooms now occupied by the enemy when they used to be occupied by them and their friends. At least they could go from room to room throught the tunnels.

"Monsters!"

Postby Rivyn on Tue Aug 31, 2004 12:50 am

Rivyn snaps when she takes in the frozen mandroids. "Frelling monsters!" she repeats, biting back tears and kicking a wall instead.

Riv...

No, Bailar, it's okay. I think I can upload their awarenesses.

I was hoping you'd say that.

Where are the others?

Basement by my scanners. How's Raegun?

In emergency powersave. I think he'll be fine. Look, meet me in the catacomb utility tunnels, near the bank of hot-tubs. From there it's a short shot to the basement. Wait for 1,000 microts and if I don't meet you by then, proceed to join the others. I'll make it as soon as I can. Go.

You sure?

Move!

Understood.

Standing in the kitchen with the mandroids, Rae waits until she can feel Crais' presence receeding, then quickly unpacked a number of memory flash-cards, plugging one into each mandroid and glancing at her watch as they uploaded. Fortunately, mechanical and electronic systems were not impacted by the Reality field the way that magical creatures and AIs were. With luck and work, she would be able to reconfigure new mandroids with new AIs, simply plugging in the memory cards.

Pocketting those, she left the now obsolete mandroids (little more than empty shells at this point) and made all possible haste for the basement, aware that the Reality field was already starting to weaken her.

"Damn Reality," she mutters as she half-jobs across the ballroom and towards the nearest utility-hatch.

Crais?

Postby Kayde on Tue Nov 02, 2004 2:43 am

"Where's Rae?" asked Kay, as Crais showed up in the basement.

"She will meet us here, or in the tunnels." He said, hoping he was right.

"Right then. Let's see what we can find."

They found more and more of their things. Almost hugging them to themselves, they each were forming piles, and also sorting for the missing Scoobs.

"How are we going to get this all back with us?" Kay asked barely above a whisper.

Drum smiled. "I'll carry as much as I can."

"That wouldn't be very much." Kay said helplessly.

Drum simply held his hand over her pile of things and they turned into dollhouse miniatures. He picked them up and dropped them in his pack, and winked at her. Kay grinned, relieved, and thought it might be a good idea to move the dogs that way too.

The kennel was right outside the basement door. She opened the door cautiously and motioned Drum to come put a charm on them. He did. Kennel and all, the miniature dogs were in a miniature cage. He spoke softly to them and put them in his backpack as well.

Now, for the rest of their things.

Damn Reality...

Postby Rivyn on Wed Nov 17, 2004 12:45 am

"Damn reality," Rivyn repeated as she hurried towards the nearest access hatch.

She found it quickly, but not without incident.

"You, there!" a voice barked.

She turned slowly, hands extended away from her side. "Oh, hello. I was hoping you could help me," she said quietly. "See, I was looking for the Jane and I got lost."

"Jane?" he repeated, frowning.

"Yes, you know. The... latrine."

"Oh. It's... hey! What are you doing here anyway?"

"Taking back what's mine," she answered coldly, drawing her pulse-pistol and firing. "Aw, drenn!" she cursed when it failed to discharge, first victim of the Reality field. Shrugging, she tossed it aside and rushed the guard, bringing her fists down hard on the back of his neck. "Sucker," she added as he slumped to the floor.

Sighing softly, she relieved him of his weapons. A ballistic side-arm and a stun-gun. Quickly dissassemlbing the one, she palmed the others and hurried the rest of the way towards the hatch, opening it and climbing inside.

"Morning, campers!" she greeted the Scoobs as she joined them in the basement. "Did you miss me?"

"We were starting to worry," Kay informed her, frowning.

"So was I. That Reality field is hell. What do you have there?" she added, gesturing towards Drum's now-bulging pack.

"Some of out things," Jila explained.

"Great. Good application of your powers, Drum." She paused, inhaling deeply. "I hate to ask, but... there's some stuff in my room..."

"Upstairs?" Ragnar asked, frowning. "In the attic?"

"Rae, that's a long way off," Kara added.

"You think I don't know that, Kara? Doesn't matter. I'm talking equipment that could spell the difference on the next quest we engage in. Guys," she added, regarding them pleadingly. "Come on."

"She is our magical go-to guy," Ragnar allowed slowly.

"You won't regret it," she promised. "But I need my Gran's Book of Shadows."

"Well, get it, Rae," Jila assured her nodding. "Right guys?"

A series of muffled "sure" and "you bet"s later, the group set off, led by Crais towards the utility tunnels accessing the upper levels of the mansion.[/i]

Gran's Book of Shadows?

Postby KaraS on Wed Nov 17, 2004 9:40 pm

"Gran's Book of Shadows?" Kara whispered. "Rae, have you been watching Charmed?"

Rivyn looked her straight in the eye. "No."

"Don't tell anybody but I watch it too." Kara whispered. "They have some of the cutest guys..."

Meanwhile, Kay was starting up the ladder through the trap door that led to the next floor...

"If you must know," she whispered to Kara as the group wended their way through the access tunnels, "I've had the Book of Shadows since before I ever saw an ep of Charmed. Sweetie's friend the golden jaguar found it for me, remember?"

"Oh, right, Mexico." Kara nodded. "Sorry."

"Not that Leo isn't a babe, mind," Rivyn laughed, winking. "Well discuss it later," she added, gesturing towards the next access-ladder. "Look, I can run to the basement alone if you guys just want to make a diversion here."

"Uh, speaking of diversions," Ragnar said slowly. "What ever happened to Kitten?"

"And, uh, speaking of golden jaguars, what ever happened to Sweetie Pie?" Kara added.

"Frell, he must have been up on the rooftop garden," Rivyn whispered, shaking her head. "Once we're to my room, you guys can start packing my stuff away and I can climb up and snag Sweetie. Sound good, people?"

lifting the lid, Kay peeked around. It seemed clear. She hesitated, and then went up through the door and the others followed her. She didn't realize she hadn't breathed till she heaved a huge sigh. She peaked out of the next door, and backed up quickly.
"There's someone out there." she whispered.

Ragnar, Kara, Rivyn and Kay made it to Rae's room. There was STUFF everywhere.

Kara poked what looked like the barrel of a grenade launcher that was sticking out from under the bed with her toe.

"Um, Rae? none of this stuff id booby trapped is it?"

"No." Rae said. "Well, I don't think so.... Except... Maybe... No, no traps."

Ragnar looked at Rae. "I'm filled with confidence."

"You'll be fine." Rae said. "Boxes are in the closet."

Then she snuck back out into the hall, off to look for Sweetiepie.

Kara looked at Ragnar and Kay. "So, who has the pleasure of risking death by looking for boxes in Rae's closet?"

Boxes?

Postby Kayde on Sun Dec 12, 2004 2:47 am

Chuckleing, in spite of the situation, Kay headed to the closet.

"Boxes I am not afraid of. I'll get them. I'ts those things that we need to get into them that I'm more afraid of." she said pointing to what looked like a miniature Raegun on floor by the dresser.
